“Humans, even nomadic ones, need a sense of home.  Home need not be one place or any place at all, but every home has two essential elements: a sense of community and, even more important, a history.” – Eric Weiner, The Geography of Bliss

EveryBody Dances is a Community Dance Experience that brings the joy of movement and self-expression to the public while creating a new audience for dance. EveryBody Dances is performed by community members with all levels of movement experience, and the choreography, set and soundscore are all created in collaboration with community members and area children.

EveryBody Dances is performed at “A Sense of Place: Celebrating a Creative Community”, an annual local arts festival at Robin Hood Park in Keene, NH. This event is co-produced by The Starving Artist Collective and Dilettante Dance.

This year, the EveryBody Dances piece will be co-choreographed by Cindi L’Abbe and Jessica Howard (with the help of the Keene community).

There are many ways to participate in EveryBody Dances:

Want to dance? Anyone can do it. Rehearsals are free and held at the Heberton Hall.  First Rehearsal on Monday June 14th at 4:30pm. Subsequent Rehearsals on Tuesday nights. 4:30-5:00 group warm-up and 5:00-6:00 rehearsal! Anyone who is interested in performing at “A Sense of Place” should be able to commit to the bulk of these rehearsals (miss no more than 3) and be available on the performance date. Rehearsals will be led by Cindi and Jessica and will begin with a modern dance and yoga based warm-up followed by an hour of rehearsing/learning the piece and improvisation/composition opportunities.  To pre-register (FREE), email us at dilettantedance@gmail.com

Are you interested in expressing yourself through movement? Do you like to improvise and create dance? Come join us for Community Choreography Workshops at The Starving Artist Collective. The workshops are taking place on May 12 + 26 and June 9+ 23 at 8pm. During the Community Choreography Workshops, Jessica and Cindi will introduce community members (of any level) to concepts in creating dance/movement for self-expression using the themes from EveryBody Dances as the framework. Community members’ movement may be included in parts of EveryBody Dances (with permission of the creator). There is a $5 suggested donation for each workshop, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds! To RSVP to this event, please email us at dilettantedance@gmail.com.

What is home to you? We are accepting text submissions to use in our soundscore for EveryBody Dances.  Click here for a list of questions/prompts and then email your responses to dilettantedance@gmail.com.  We cannot guarantee that every text submission will get into the piece, but we will include as much as possible. Text may also be included in the set design.

Lastly, you can participate in EveryBody Dances by supporting this community-building event.
